What happens when a graphic designer with a sweet tooth and a creative flair for the macabre turns into a baker? Lily Vanilli’s book, A Zombie at My Cupcake: 25 Deliciously Weird Cupcake Recipes (Cico 2010).

Cupcakes are in (and have been for a few years now.) And it’s not a novel idea to create gory treats for Halloween and spooky parties. But this UK native is really bringing out the dead and horrific side of baked goods for the masses.
Her first book incorporates graphics by Paul Parker and is an introduction to a decent number of made-from-scratch cake recipes and design tips and even instructions for making sugar glass. This book is perfect for little monsters and adults alike.
Tomorrow the book launches in Harrod’s – too bad for me it’s in London. And on the 29th of October, there will be a special “Zombie Last Supper” event in the store’s stationary department between 1-2pm to celebrate the book’s launch. There will be free cupcakes, zombie waiters, and zombies to eat your cupcakes with and take pictures – this event is family-friendly.
“Cupcakes have been iced up in pink and glitter for too long… and now they are getting their REVENGE!” straight from A Zombie At My Cupcake’s Facebook.

I have always loved spooky baking!! I’ll have to pick this up!
Oh – I definitely own this book. It’s so worth it, especially if you have a sweet tooth or are catering to those who have one.
Those gory ‘Bleeding Hearts’ came from this book.
