Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil (2010)

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil

After making the rounds at film festivals across the globe, finally, FINALLY! This horror gem has been released on limited screens in the US. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a fun, bloody, tongue-in-cheek take on the classic ideology of backwoods serial killers.

The staple of many popular horror flick is the stereotypical backwoods killer. They’re dirty, uneducated, creepy as all hell, and live on the edge of society. But what if these hillbillies are just misunderstood. What if that creepy cabin on the lake is actually a regular, blue-collar Joe’s vacation home? Add a bunch of sociophobic/psychopathic college kids who can’t seem to keep themselves alive and you have a real humdinger of a horror-comedy.

Starring Alan Tudyk of Firefly as Tucker and Tyler Labine from Reaper as Dale, T&DvE introduces us to the every-man redneck. They just want to work on Tucker’s vacation cabin and fish while throwing back a few Pabst Blue Ribbons. Just like regular guys. Enter college student Allison (Katrina Bowden) and her group of judgmental co-ed friends. They just want to go camping, tell ghost stories, and skinny dip.

Tucker doing some yard work.

Through a series of really wack-ass events the kids become convinced that Tucker and Dale are out to get them while Tucker and Dale are convinced that these crazy psychos are forming some sort of murder-suicide pact. Now what’s this going to do to Tucker’s property value?!

As fair warning, the trailer for T&DvE gives a whole hell of a lot of the story away. That being said, it’s still mighty good fun with a couple of simple twists. It is a bit predictable, but let’s be honest, we all knew this wasn’t going to be high brow horror. T&DvE is laugh out loud funny, with plenty of “ew gross,” and a few surprises for the avid horror fan. Look for the homages to other backwoods horror films such as Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Blair Witch Project, and Deliverance with a little bit of Fargo thrown in for chippy fun. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a horror fan’s popcorn flick… so get a bag of Jiffy Pop, sit down, and have few blood splattered lols.

About Ash Wednesday

Some say the pen is mightier than the sword. Ash Wednesday believes so, especially when you use one to stab somebody in the eye! Her first big girl book was Jurassic Park in 4th grade and she's been a sci-fi/horror book fan ever since. With her affinity for things with big teeth and biting habits, she also loves good (or really bad) zombie, vampire and supernatural flicks. For the record, vampires don't sparkle.
