We here at Gores Truly believe in equal opportunity horror. The things that go bump in the night don’t discriminate against age – so why should we? For all the horror-loving parents out there with little ghouls and boys – Terror Tots is our new feature focused on getting your spawn brushed on the lighter side of all things horror.
Considering the big day is only a few months away – if you haven’t already – now is the time to start getting your little monsters prepared. And we don’t mean just picking up a super sweet trick-or-treat bag.
Sharing horror with your little ones can be a frighteningly fun time for the kids (and how most of us here at Gores Truly got into it ourselves). And this time? The topic is Witches.
Check out some of our favorites below and feel free to let us know what flicks are your family’s favorite.
What’s the best way to introduce a kid to Tim Curry? No… not IT. Try The Worst Witch, a film starring Mr. Curry, Fairuza Balk, and Diana Rigg. Although this movie is seriously dated and the special effects look like they were done in a high school dungeon, kids will still find the story, acting, and singing hilarious. And yes, heart warming.
The Witches is one of those movies that despite being over twenty years old – starring Anjelica Huston, this film still manages to be family friendly and? Super Creepy. A Norwegian woman and her grandson get caught up in an annual meeting of undercover witches (Aka: The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) – and literally learn that not all old sweet british ladies are really that sweet. Between the chocolate and mice and pudgy little blokes – you and your little monsters may find this classic flick a perfect excuse to bake up some goodies and teach some moral lessons – like don’t judge a book by its cover and always carry a meat cleaver.
Hocus Pocus is hands down one of our favorite family horror flicks here at Gores Truly. Starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy – it’s witty, twisted, and a great way to introduce children to the idea that you really shouldn’t tick off women. Especially 300-year-old resurrected witches.
What are some of your favorite Witchy flicks to watch with your little monsters? Let us know and feel free to share other horror family favorites of yours to be shared in our Terror Tots feature over the next few months.
