Thoughts: Leprechaun, and all of its amazingly cheesy sequels, are quite possibly some of my favorite go-to films when I need a good laugh. So when I heard they were making a prequel, I assumed they were going to go the route of all 80’s reboots and make what was once kitschy-silly 80’s horror into into something far more dark and sinister. And it appears? I was right. I enjoyed this trailer far more than I assumed I would. While I miss Warwick Davis and his amazingly bad limericks, I can’t say I’m not a little bit more excited for this film than I probably should be. Lipovsky has insisted that this is a canon origin story for the Leprechaun many of us grew up on – and I’m not seeing the connection from the posters and trailers alone, but here’s to giving it the benefit of the doubt and scary-ass takes on Irish folklore.
