Kickstarting Horror: The Chair (Round 2!)

Hi All! You may or may not remember that a few months ago, I wrote another Kickstarting Horror piece about THE CHAIR. The project, if you need a refresher, was to bring THE CHAIR (a comic book of the same name) to the big screen in its own feature-length movie. The Kickstarter I wrote about before was completely funded by some amazing backers – myself included 😉 – and they are set to film from 2/9-2/25 in Los Angeles. You can find the full cast of the film here on their IMDB page.

The comic synopsis:

THE CHAIR follows the story of Richard Sullivan, an innocent man struggling to escape execution on death row. Witnessing the torture and murder of his fellow inmates at the hands of the prison’s sadistic and psychotic Warden, Sullivan decides that the only way to survive is to fight back. But as he matches the savagery and brutality occurring in the prison, Sullivan is forced to come face to face with his own sanity.

The new teaser trailer they have released is nothing short of unnerving:

Why am I writing about THE CHAIR again? Despite meeting their goal for the first Kickstarter which allows them to build the sets, hire actors and crew, obtain make up and wardrobe and everything else that they need to shoot the movie, it seems they don’t have quite enough for the post-production costs. If you know anything about the film industry, this is a big problem! If they can’t find enough investors they will have to hold a second Kickstarter for post production costs. (Peter Simeti who is at the head of the projects estimates that it would be around $20,000.) Before they take that option, however, Simeti and the others who are responsible for bringing us THE CHAIR wanted to give horror fans an opportunity to invest in the film.

Here are the details which were sent out to the Kickstarter Backers, which Mr. Simeti has graciously allowed me to share with our readers here at Gores Truly!

  • Deadline for investment funds: March 1st
  • $500 minimum investment
  • 120% ROI (Return on Investment) once the film sells to distribution (within 6 months to a year of post-production completion)
  • So you receive your investment back PLUS 20% ($500 would yield $100, $1000 would yield $200 and so on)
  • For every $500 invested, you receive 0.1% equity share of the profits the film makes in DVD/Blu-Ray sales and any other additional sales of the film to television, Video on Demand, Streaming services, etc. for as long as the film exists.

I wanted to share it with our readers because this presents a unique opportunity for horror fans to support a worthy cause and make a return on the investment. If you aren’t able to invest, but still would like to support the project – THE CHAIR has an Etsy Shop that they are using to raise funds prior to another Kickstarter launch. Cool stuff, all around! I can’t wait for February – my life needs teased production stills!
